Travel Requirements from UK:

La Palma belongs to the European Union and you will need a valid UK passport (valid for a minimum of six months at return date). Visas are not required at time of writing unless you are staying over 90 days.

No vaccinations are necessary.

The La Palma International Airport is small and once you enter the arrivals area, you'll find the luggage carousels, car hire offices and Tourist Information Board which has a number of free booklets and maps available so pick some up on your way out. There are a few cafes and a bar serving hot food and drinks throughout the day. The bus stop, coach pick-up points and taxi ranks are located just outside the building.

There are a number of options for getting to and from the airport if you don't have transportation provided by a travel company.

By Car: Since the island is fairly small, all areas are within easy reach by car.

By Bus: The island offers an efficient bus service and is a great way to get around the island if you don't want to hire a car or take a tour.

By Ferry: The ferry port at Santa Cruz de la Palma operates services to Tenerife, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Puerto del Rosario and Arrecife.

A full, valid driving licence is required. The minimum age for driving in Spain and the Canary Islands is 18 but since each car rental company has its own policy on age requirements, it is advisable to check with your car hire company before arrival or upon booking.

The check-in desks are located on the ground floor in the centre of the passenger terminal with the three boarding gates close-by. The boarding area is sparse so before entering, make use of the comfortable seating areas within the airport which include outside terraced areas where you can eat and drink in the sunshine whilst waiting for your flight.

Inside the airport there are a number of shops offering duty free cigarettes and alcohol, pharmacy items, local crafts and gifts, newspapers (including some UK papers), books and magazines. There is also a restaurant area selling hot and cold food, hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages. Toilets are located on both the upper and lower floors.
